Message From Michelle Gibson, AGA Hawaii Community Service Chairperson:

Aloha AGA Members! We have another community service event coming up. We will be sorting donations in the Kokua Korner of the Institute for Human Services Women’s Shelterat:
546 Ka’aahi Street, Honolulu, HI 96817 (off of Dillingham between King St. and Costco, next to Tony’s Gas Station and behind Jack in the Box)

Please let me know by Monday, March 25 if you are interested in volunteering at (808) 342-4605.

Additional information for those volunteering:
1. Respect the confidentiality of IHS guests – no cameras please
2. Sign in and out with reception
3. Parking is very limited, so please try to carpool
4. Wear appropriate clothing – Closed shoes, long pants or longer shorts, no tank tops etc.
5. Volunteers will need to sign a Hold Harmless form on day of volunteering – all volunteers under 18 need to have a parent or guardian sign the form.

Talk Story” With UH Accounting Students

The format and topics (based on student requests):
Part I (Estimated time 20 to 30 minutes)
Ross Okumura (10 Minutes)
1. What your AGA membership can do for you?
2. Applying for Federal jobs.

Part II
1. Professional interaction (Estimated time 60 minutes)
2. Three rounds of seated discussions with government accounting professionals (about 20 minutes per round)
a. About 25 to 30 students are expected to attend
b. 5 to 6 students per table with 1 to 2 professionals
c. Three rotations of professionals are anticipated

Part III
1. Food and refreshments (Estimated time 30 Minutes)

"As you well know, these students receive significant attention and information from public accounting firms in contrast to almost no information or attention from the public sector. Most students are unaware of the opportunities for accountants in government service. Accordingly, your participation in just talking with them will broaden their awareness and perhaps spark their interest in government service. We hope you'll join us for free food, soda, and great conversation!"

AGA Hawaii March Community Service Project


Ronald McDonald House

Saturday, March 16, 2013, 4:30- 7pm

Our next community service event will be preparing dinner at the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House offers a home-away-from-home to families needing to be near their seriously ill or injured children while they’re being treated at Honolulu area hospitals. We will be cooking and preparing a meal for approximately 30 people. We will also be able to eat, talk and interact with the families that are available to attend the meal.
