Advancing Government Accountability
In August 1976, thirty-five charter members from four Federal agencies, two CPA firms and the University of Hawaii established a Hawaii chapter of the national Association of Government Accountants that had been organized in 1950 in Washington, D.C. That chapter is today known as AGA Hawaii. In the ensuing decades, AGA broadened its membership base far beyond government accountants, facilitated progressive and innovative professional development activities, improved their members’ working environment, and achieved recognition for their important contribution to better overall federal, state, and local government.
Today, AGA includes over 17,000 members serving a broad area of financial management in approximately 90 chapters throughout the United States and around the world. AGA’s programs are recognized and respected, and its opinions and views are solicited by professionals in public and private institutions everywhere.
AGA Hawaii membership includes 160 professionals from Federal and State of Hawaii agencies, City and County of Honolulu, international and local CPA firms, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations. The chapter includes working professionals and student members.
AGA Hawaii and its members have won many national AGA awards for excellence in education, community service, professionalism and communication, and supporting regional professional development.
